New Poem – Plight of the Roofless

new poem

Plight of the Roofless

You seem abnormal,
slightly off-kilter.
You frantically pace the grass,
unable to keep your own speed.
You are dirty,
possibly never showering
in your entire life.
You find food virtually anywhere;
on the ground, in a dumpster,
in a tree, if need be.
Amid countless twitches and face scratches,
you shove it into your mouth
without a care who may be watching.
If you were human,
you would be ignored,
maybe even ridiculed.
But you’re a squirrel,
so we think you’re cute.
